An autumn programme of events for the islands
Funded by Arts Council England and managed by the Council of the Isles of Scilly, the Culture on Scilly programme brings performing arts and cultural events to the Isles of Scilly

A new season of autumn events has been launched for the Isles of Scilly – with tickets now on sale for all shows.
From spooky shows to reflections on nature, from storytelling to puppetry and goats, there’s something for everyone in an eclectic and entertaining mix of shows starting in early October.
Culture on Scilly, a small team that feeds into the new Cultural Centre and Museum project on St Mary’s, is comprised of co-ordinators Jeremy Brown and Tammy Bedford who head up the search for exciting new shows to bring to the five islands.
Jeremy Brown said: “We work hard to build relationships with lots of exciting artists and companies, searching for a brilliant mix of shows to appeal to our local audiences and to our island holidaymakers. We’ve had some real highlights this year already – including Miracle Theatre’s Love Riot, a screening of Long Way Back and Simple 8’s amazing show Moby Dick and we wanted to keep the momentum going with some exciting autumn shows.”
Tammy Bedford added: “There are some really exciting artists and performers coming to Scilly this autumn, and we’re really delighted to share the news that the new autumn programme tickets are now on sale.”

Karen Wimhurst - JUMP
Friday 4 October, 7.30pm
Old Town Inn, St Mary’s
Once upon a time in a meadow far away ... the joint was jumping with life . Insects were calling, frogs croaking, the sounds of summer. But this symphony of small voices is rapidly being silenced.
A celebration of nature and a call to arms, in JUMP, field recordings of insects and amphibians become part of an exciting musical score, taking audiences on an enchanting musical journey into their world.

From The Horse’s Mouth
Thursday 10 October, 7pm
Old Town Inn, St Mary's
A free evening of stories and scenes inspired by the Isles of Scilly.
Featuring original work by writers including Anna Maria Murphy, Oliver Berry and Sophie Wainwright. Directed by Simon Harvey and performed by o-region, St Mary’s Theatre Club and the Five Islands Academy.
As part of the research for our new show WHITE HORSE o-region presents Scilly - From the Horse’s Mouth. This is a free evening of stories and performances of original material developed by the team of writers following a series of events, interviews and workshops in the local area.
The event will be hosted by o-region’s Artistic Director, Simon Harvey and will be performed by professional actors.
This project is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Arts Council England and FEAST, part of the Creative Kernow Group, with funding from Arts Council England and Cornwall County Council.

The Goat Show: Running Dog Theatre

Mixing puppetry, storytelling and original music, Running Dog Theatre CIC brings you a rollicking adventure story about goats, division and overcoming conflict - but with chase sequences and competitive poo collection!

David Mynne – Dracula: The Vampyr

The team that brought you Canterbury Tales and A Christmas Carol have got their teeth into Bram Stoker’s classic. Devised in their inimitable, irreverent style to bring you a better, bloodier one-man performance of Dracula: the Vampyr!

Hellish: Jam First Theatre

Jam First Theatre bring their rip roaring, irreverent and wickedly funny show ‘Hellish’ to The Old Town Inn, as seen at The Edinburgh Fringe and Great Estate Festival.
Jago Clemo is out of luck and the devil knows it! Down at his local pub, fed up and frustrated, Jago will bet on any game going... Unfortunately, so will the Devil. Settle back for a power hour of rambunctious fast paced comedy that will leave your ribs aching. Definitely not for kids!

Ghosts and the Cornish Landscape

A talk by Keith Wallis, host of the Piskie Trap Podcast
In this talk we’ll be exploring a range of ghostly tales from across Cornwall, from phantom hounds and wandering spectres on the lonely moors, to ancient apparitions among the carns and quoits, and stories of smugglers in the isolated coves.
Keith Wallis works across theatre and film and is the host of ‘ The Piskie Trap’ - a podcast series exploring the folklore, history and legends from across Cornwall. His recent work has involved a number of collaborations with leading historians, writers, folklorists and storytellers, as part of a movement to preserve local folklore traditions, and to promote Cornish history and heritage

With the support of Arts Council England, the Culture on Scilly team presents a range of activities throughout 2024 which will help inform the programme of the new Isles of Scilly Cultural Centre and Museum.
Alongside their regular programme of events, Culture on Scilly also run and support projects and commissions which enable people to experience high-quality arts and culture. They work with partners on Scilly and beyond to deliver work which focuses on community participation, building new audiences, and developing skills – especially for young people on Scilly.
