Creative partner call out: Help us develop our plans to create new and exciting art
The Cultural Centre and Museum team is able to offer an exciting creative commission opportunity - we’re looking for a creative partner to develop a piece of original new work to be shared during the Town Hall opening season. We’re interested in a range of artforms and our first stage will be to commission research and development to help deliver a fully costed proposal.
We are looking to work with a creative partner (either an individual or organisation) to develop and commission original new work to celebrate the launch of the Cultural Centre and Museum, and to be shared during the opening summer 2026 season.
We would like to be ambitious with the scale and impact of the project, but we currently have a modest budget to take this forward.
As a first stage, we will want to commission up to two creative partners to undertake Research and Development to progress a costed project proposal. We will then work together to identify funding opportunities to enable the completion and presentation of the selected work.
At the end of the R&D period we will expect the presentation of a proposal to include the following:
Project outcomes and legacy
Project plan with indicative timeline
Detailed budget
Community engagement opportunities
At this stage we are flexible about artforms and outcomes, but we want the final project to achieve the following aims:
Sense of place – exploring and celebrating what is distinctive about Scilly, its heritage, culture, identity and environmental qualities. The staff of Scilly Arts and Heritage would be delighted to share ideas about the Isles of Scilly Museum collection and how any commission might engage with that.
Quality – commissioning work which is ambitious, imaginative and well-executed
Collaboration – encouraging new connections both within and beyond Scilly, including educational and creative partnerships, and the involvement of Scilly’s creative community.
Engagement – ensuring the active involvement of residents and visitors in the development and experience of the new work
Legacy – identifying ways of enabling people to experience the work beyond the initial presentation
Flexible around timings – we need a project plan which will work around the potential for changes to the handover of the building but also the unique challenges of travel plans to and from the islands
The deadline for expressions of interest is 25 April 2025. Further details on the timeline are in the information pack.
There is an available fee for the research and development phase of £4,000 + VAT plus agreed travel and accommodation expenses.
Help us develop our plans to share new and exciting artwork with our visitors and residents and to celebrate the stories of Scilly.
