Become a trustee of the new Cultural Centre and Museum

The much-loved Grade II-listed Town Hall in Hugh Town on St Mary’s has always been a place for the community to gather and to welcome visitors. Plans are underway to rejuvenate that legacy, creating a warm and welcoming venue in the heart of St Mary’s, a place for local people and holidaymakers alike to come together.

The building will be a celebration of the beautiful natural landscape and distinctive architecture of the Isles of Scilly and will:

·       become a new home for our museum, celebrating the culture and stories of Scilly and shining a light on our rich heritage.

·       provide a performance and exhibition space for local artists and performers, as well as touring companies – creating a much-needed indoor venue for cinema, theatre and live music performances.

·       act as an Island Hall for our local community, providing a space for people to gather – whether for a craft fair or community group, a dance or a family celebration.

The trustees will play a crucial part in the development and success of the new facility by providing strategic oversight, support and challenge.  As this exciting transformation becomes a reality, we have identified a need for specialist museums and collections representation at the Board, to complement the skills and experience of the four existing trustees.  We are seeking one or more trustees who can bring that knowledge and experience of collections’ management, conservation and/or interpretation to the project.

If you think that could be you and want to offer your knowledge and experience to this once-in-a-lifetime project, we would love to hear from you.  We welcome all interest and applications from any person, regardless of where they are based, but would especially love to hear from any Scilly resident who has significant experience in the museums sector.  Ultimately, the Board could number 12 trustees and island-based recruitment and representation remains a focus for those appointments.

If you have any questions, or would like an informal conversation to discuss the role, please contact Ann Tudor, Chair of the Trustees, on anntudor@iosmuseum.org

The trustee role is not renumerated, but reasonable expenses will be paid.

To apply:

To apply, please submit a supporting statement (no more than 2 sides of A4) setting out:

• Why you would like to be a trustee

• What you will bring to the role, particularly given the context and our requirements set out above.

Please include a supporting CV if available.

Applications should be sent to CCAMtrustees@scilly.gov.uk marked ‘Trustee application’.  The closing date for applications is Friday 9 August but we will be reviewing applications and interviewing on a rolling basis, so please apply early if you are interested.  All candidates will be contacted whether they are invited for interview or not.
